Anti Header

♫♫♪♫   Love hurts, love scars,
Love wounds, and mars,
Any heart, not tough,
Or strong, enough
To take a lot of pain,
Take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud
Holds a lot of rain
Love hurts, ooh ooh love hurts    ♫♫♪♫

Nazareth says it best: love hurts. With Valentine’s Day 2013 approaching what better way to reflect upon love and relationships then by reading what happens when love goes wrong. So sit back, relax, and let’s take a look at my Top 3 choices!

 The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher

Summary: Olivia Kaspen has just discovered that her ex-boyfriend, Caleb Drake, has lost his memory. With an already lousy reputation for taking advantage of situations, Olivia must decide how far she is willing to go to get Caleb back. Wrestling to keep her true identity and their sordid past under wraps, Olivia’s greatest obstacle is Caleb’s wicked, new girlfriend; Leah Smith. It is a race to the finish as these two vipers engage in a vicious tug of war to possess a man who no longer remembers them. But, soon enough Olivia must face the consequences of her lies, and in the process discover that sometimes love falls short of redemption. (Goodreads)

Quote: “I will love again, Olivia, you will hurt forever. What you’ve done is…You are worthless because you make yourself that way. You will remember me every day for the rest of your life because I was the one and you threw me away.”

My Playlist: Aerosmith “What It Takes”

“Girl, before I met you I was F.I.N.E. Fine
but your love made me a prisoner, yeah my heart’s been doing time
You spent me up like money, then you hung me out to dry
It was easy to keep all your lies in disguise
‘Cause you had me in deep with the devil in your eyes”

Theme: Deception

Tarryn Fisher changed the game when she wrote about the desperate acts people take in order to keep the one they love. Instead of candies and flowers to woo the one you love, Olivia, Caleb and Leah use lies, deception and mind fuckery instead.

Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

Summary: Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents’ latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen. Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road. (Goodreads)

Quote: “Please stop, I was thinking. This isn’t right. It feels right and it feels wrong but it isn’t right. There’s a motive and it isn’t lust. It isn’t lust. It’s revenge. Revenge has never felt so good.”
My Playlist: She Wants Revenge- Tear You Apart

“Either way he wanted her and this was bad

Wanted to do things to her it was making him crazy

Now a little crush turned into a like

And now he wants to grab her by the hair and tell her I want to hold you close

Skin pressed against me tight Lie still, and close your eyes girl

So lovely, it feels so right I want to hold you close Soft breath, beating heart

As I whisper in your ear I wanna fucking tear you apart”

Theme: Revenge

In this dark, gritty, and sexy story we have Ellie Watt paying many pipers. First there is the delectable Camden McQueen who makes Ellie a pawn in her own game, and we have the dangerously delicious Javier who is hunting her down. You’ll be left wandering if Ellie should put up her fists, or take off her bra. Revenge has never been so good….

Captive in The Dark by C.J. Roberts

Summary: Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him. (Goodreads)

Quote:“I wrapped my arms around him and held on as hard as I could. He was my tormentor and my solace: the creator of the dark and the light within. I didn’t care that he would undoubtedly hurt me at any moment, right now; I just needed somebody to hold me… To tell me these exact words. Its going to be okay. It wasn’t of course, I knew that. But I didn’t care, I needed the lie.”

My Playlist: Animotion- Obsession

“My fantasy has turned to madness
All my goodness has turned to badness
My need to possess you has consumed my soul
My life is trembling, I have no control

I will have you, yes I will have you
I will find a way and I will have you
Like a butterfly, a wild butterfly
I will collect you and capture you

You are an obsession, you’re my obsession”

Theme: Possession

Captive in the Dark is sexy, terrifying, thrilling, horrifying. Is it a love story? Hell I have no idea myself. I just know that Caleb is dangerous, and in more ways than just his profession. You will either want to throw something at Caleb, or throw yourself at him willingly…..
